For newcomers to the scene my advice would be: take your time to build real skills, to become a little better every day and aim to become world class. The closing of Trouw forced me to stand on my own feet – in hindsight that was a blessing in disguise. It was the best DJ school I could have wished for. The residency taught me a lot about DJing and helped me develop my style. Your residency at the legendary Trouw will be greatly remembered, but you have, since our last chat, made a great leap into the wider international electronic music scene, do you think your residency gave you the grounding to move forward, to “earn your stripes” so to speak? What advice would you give to those wishing to enter the scene? There is no plan, whatever interesting sounds come out of my machines, that’s what I will work with.

I try to float freely and let the music write itself. Paying no homage at all to the traditions of house and techno, I wanted to know how he approaches time in the studio. They feel alien, unhinged, at times uncomfortable and anything but domesticated. One thing that has always struck me as admirable of Patrice’s productions and his epic sets, is the ability to defy categorisation. Popularity of a certain genre has very little impact on my decision-making process in the studio, if it did I would always be chasing trends. I think the DNA of my music is still firmly rooted in those influences from the past, it just happens by chance that melodic techno is popular at the moment. Definitely three items off my bucket list.Īrmed with a wealth of back story, you mentioned in your last interview with us, that view of music was influenced by Laurent Garnier, 80s synth pop and your dad, with you now found on line ups with Tale of Us in Ibiza to releasing on Lost & Found, do you think your style has still holds those influences or more your recent success surrounded by a very melodic scene?

I would rank doing the Balance Mix CD, the BBC Essential Mix and the Depeche Mode remix at the very top of things I was most excited about doing. Fatboy Slim celebrates 20th anniversary Of Big Beach Boutique Festival.

LOCO DICE CLUB SPACE MAY 2018 PLUS
After’s 2016’s prolific musical output which included the Balance compilation series, EPs on Correspondant and Speicher/Kompakt, plus remixes for Underworld and Depeche Mode. Patrice is currently busy in the studio working on his eagerly anticipated follow ups for both Afterlife and Kompakt. From being invited by Radio 1 to contribute to the esteemed Essential Mix series, to his Afterlife released single ‘Glutes’ being voted one of the biggest tracks of the year, 2017 was a year to remember for Patrice, and a sign of things to come… 2017 was Patrice’s most successful year yet, the culmination of many years travelling the road, a positive change in lifestyle, lots more hard work, fun, and spreading the love. Since the clubs closure he has moved from strength to strength to carve out his own space in the international music community. He is a former resident DJ at the now closed Trouw club. He also threw in some covers and remixes, which of course kept the audience on top form! He worked off of us in the crowd really well, bouncing around energy which was just incredible.Patrice Bäumel is a DJ and producer currently living in Amsterdam. He played a great selection of tracks, from new work on his mix tape, to the older original sounds. He had a microphone, and kept calling out to the audience to join in and dance along, although we didn’t need much encouraging, as everyone was going crazy from the word go! He opened the show with Menina Brasillera, and had everyone dancing straight away. He’s a DJ who really reads the vibe and mood of the audience, so you never quite know what you’re going to get when you see him perform live, but you know it’s going to be great! His hip hop sound that he performed at the recent show was exciting, funky, and great to dance to. DJ sets are always a lot of fun, but when you see someone perform who is so influential and well known as Loco Dice, you know the whole show is going to absolutely blow you away.
